Magali Brieussel

Lisez-moi !

A book's cover

Synopsis

This novel is the imaginary autobiography of a traveling notebook that changes hands as it travels across the surface of the globe. Witness to a thousand typical scenes, the object acquires a patina as its pages fill up and fingers of all colors leaf through it and scratch its paper with their writing instruments.

Back cover

An astonishing first novel by Magali Brieussel, a bookseller and translator marked by her travels! We follow the adventures of a notebook that passes from hand to hand, from Uganda to Egypt, via Mexico, India and a mysterious desert island, where we will meet – among others – the whimsical Alice. As its pages darken, a slow metamorphosis takes place. A poetic metaphor for the creative process, Lisez-moi! is inspired by a series of reports made around the world. An invitation to read, travel and dream.

The author

A tireless globetrotter, Magali lives her passions every day in her Montpellier bookstore where traveling readers - and readers in general - find their happiness. She knows the world of books well, having frequented it in several places, as a professional as well as an experienced tourist. When she writes, she continues to live her passion and talks about ... travel and books. Hence the theme of her first novel. Link to the author's website.

The vein of the book

The book makes an explicit reference to Lewis Carol and an implicit reference (intentional or not) to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

- We discover an astonishing Alice in this book.

- The hero-object is both candid and perceptive, like Le Petit Prince.

Why Matière brute ?

This collection favors spontaneity and freshness, staging the transformation of a raw material. Here a notebook becomes ... something else, which we discover at the end of the book.

Atmosphere

Bring a leather backpack weathered by the sun and sea spray on every continent, sewn with worn, frayed badges and insignia, fill it with the bare essentials including a flask of strong rum (to be consumed in moderation), and set off on the roads with Magali's book in hand, reading it loud and clear as if your life depended on it.

For the youngest, follow your parents, your uncles and aunts, your godparents or your older cousins on the same roads, sipping a pomegranate juice cut with lemonade. Or stay warm at home and imagine that you are traveling the world.

Readers' notes

They said about Lisez-moi !
