Claude Savornin

Lame poète

A book's cover

Synopsis

Lame Poète is the third collection of poems published by Scenent. The author begins by depicting his childhood in the Pays de Seyne and the beauty of these valleys surrounded by majestic mountains (Couloubroux, Le Vernet, Le Dodge jaune à phares blancs…), before knowing his destiny as an adventurer, that of a humanist military surgeon operating under bullets. In this poetic story he takes a lucid and peaceful look at a world that is nevertheless torn apart. Faithful in friendship, he pays tribute to the endearing characters who have contributed to building his personality (Aux amours du lycée Gassendi, À mes petites-filles…). Finally, Claude gives his advice and the lessons learned throughout his life (De bonnes choses à attendre… de la vie, Le paysage de la vie, Quelques conseils tirés d’une expérience de la vie).

The author

Claude Savornin is originally from the town of Couloubroux, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Today he lives, accompanies and operates on his patients in Paris. Outside of his working hours, Claude has a passion, now revealed in broad daylight, for writing. Indeed, this doctor has long kept his love of poems to himself - this could have been misunderstood by his fellow surgeons, men of action above all. But he will explain to you that for him poetry was vital, a way of compensating for a level of stress inherent in practicing surgery in wartime.

The vein of the book

Reading Lame Poète, we think of :
- Après trois ans by Paul Verlaine, for the evocation of a place magnified by distance and memory ;
- Les fables by Jean de La Fontaine, explicitly cited by the author as a key reference ;
- Les Contemplations by Victor Hugo, at the level of the atmosphere, of the interweaving of a great sensitivity and a political concern for the world.

Why Matière bruteWhat could be more appropriate than the Matière Brute collection to house this contrast between brutality and raw aesthetics, between the stress of urgency and the contemplation of something greater than oneself? Authenticity is everywhere in this book, thus entering directly into the editorial line of the collection.

Atmosphere

Either you are already in a sunny valley surrounded by mountains blued by the shadows of the clouds, or you want to transport yourself there by reading. A chartreuse (to be consumed in moderation) will put in your mouth a scent of the peaks conducive to escape.

Children and adolescents, this book is also (especially?) intended for you. You can either read it in one go or savor it in small sips, poem after poem, and why not practice learning them by heart, with a fresh natural lemonade in a large glass in hand.
