Bertrand Ploquin
À la recherche d'Amalia D.
Review
This is a magnificent initiatory novel where friendship, like love, moves mountains. Sincere, authentic, the tone of the book has the gift of making readers escape, of allowing them to identify with these kids convinced that nothing is impossible, and especially not the project of meeting their favorite actress. Touching and fair, this seemingly insane quest is inspired by a true story.
We start to imagine which actress could be hiding in the author's head, a real actress that is. There are indeed a few famous Amalias, notably a certain Amalia Rodrigues, but she worked in the fado register, a singer and not an actress. No, Bertrand Ploquin's real source of inspiration must have another first name. It is up to each reader to find the one who in reality most resembles the model in the book, and who knows, the one who would best embody her on screen.
